3000 BC - The first recorded dowry is exchanged.
1924 - Chicago's Marshall Field's Department Store (now Macy's) creates the first gift registry as a way for brides-to-be to share their favorite china, crystal, and silver. It doesn't take long for the service to spread throughout the retail industry.
1981 - Prince Charles and Princess Diana are gifted a jewel-encrusted boat, valued at approximately 500,000 Euros. No word on whether or not the boat was on their registry.
1995 - The registry enters the modern age when Target introduces their self-service wedding gift registry center.
2006 - Honeyfund launches as one of the first free online honeymoon and cash gift registries
2015 - A shift toward giving couples more modernized and non-traditional options to suit toward the 2017 lifestyle.
